Project Description:
The Iowa Cornets were a professional women’s basketball team that was founded in 1978 and played two seasons in the Women’s Professional Basketball League. The Cornets are sometimes considered to be the first professional women’s basketball team. While the team only played for two seasons, they were an incredibly good team. They made it to the league championship in both years of their existence. Unfortunately, after two seasons, they disbanded with the league not lasting much longer.
Women’s sports are currently enjoying a lot of attention, especially in Iowa. Caitlin Clark has brought a lot of eyes to Women’s Basketball, so it seems to be the perfect time to bring back a historical Women’s Basketball team in Iowa.
